Abseil at Arundel Castle
Huge thanks to all those amazing people with a head for heights who took part in the challenge to abseil down the wall of the 184ft Bakehouse Tower at Arundel Castle on 5th of June.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Arundel, it was all in aid of Depaul International and the Rotary campaign, Thanks for Life, which aims to eradicate polio throughout the world.
The Duchess of Norfolk, who is the new patron of Depaul International, intrepidly agreed to go over the parapet, and was joined by three of her children in the descent: “It was really fun, but very scary! Knowing that the funds raised were going to two very good causes made it all worthwhile.”
Lots of other families decided to take up the challenge too, along with TV weather presenter Reham Khan from BBC South Today, and Lauren Jones, 14, who is paralysed from the waist down after an accident last year. Lauren has not let her injury deter her from living a full and active life, she is continuing to pursue her sporting goals, and hopes to represent Great Britain in tennis at the 2012 Paralympics. A special thank you to Lauren for her bravery.
Please keep the sponsorship money rolling in! If you sponsored a particular participant or team please make sure you have sent your donation. Nearly £4,000 has already been collected but there are promised donations yet to be received - many thanks.
Its still not too late to make a donation to the overall event if you’d like to. Just send cheques made payable to Arundel Rotary Club and clearly state on your donation that it is towards the abseil event so that the proceeds can be split between the two charities. Please post to Arundel Rotary Club, c/o Lower Castle Lodge, Mill Road, Arundel, West Sussex, BN19 9PA.
THANK YOU!
